YAY!!!

Sami went to the Dr. yesterday for her weight check.

At her appointment last week she had lost 5 ounces and was down to a low 6 lbs. 10 oz.

Well, yesterday she weighed in at 7 lbs. 3 oz. !!

Ian and I couldn't have been more proud, lol.

Finally, some gratification for these horribly sore nipples! LOL

This girl wants to eat every hour, what the heck! It's like she knew she had to put the weight on. I'm not sure if I'm producing enough for her or she's just not nursing right...

This was her Father's Day outfit that Daddy picked out for her to wear. She's still so small that everything is huge on her.

She's started gettting baby acne too. Poor thing, I hate that stuff some of it looks painful. I hope it clears up soon.

We go back again next week for another weight check and to see the doctor. Wish us luck...

Clones!

I swear this little girl is a clone of her father! I look at Ian now and all I see is Sami's face. Too weird!

Sweet Girl

So far everything is going great. Although she is a sleepy little girl and I have to wake her up a lot to eat. We went to the Dr. yesterday and she's lost a full 5 ounces! We go back in a week for another weight check, and then a week after that for another one.
I can't believe she's almost 2 weeks old already! Time is just flying by. I was sad last Saturday when she turned one week, lol. I just don't want her to grow up too fast, lol. Everyday is just more amazing than the one before. She learns and does new things everyday. Her little noises that she makes are changing and developing, she's starting to get different destinctive crys, instead of just that newborn cry.

I do feel bad for her when she's awake though. How do you entertain a newborn? She always seems bored, lol. I talk to her and kiss her (I swear this morning she kissed me back! And she hugs me too, lol)

I'm just loving every moment of being this little girls mommy. She's beautiful!

Oh yeah...her first bath went pretty good...however, every bath since then has been a nightmare! She HATES it! I can't wait to give her a real bath an not the sponge bath...if only that darn belly button would fall off!

And her favorite hobby so far has been pooping on me everytime I change her diaper! Well, at least 90% of the time....it is not fun, and we've wasted many diapers playing this game!

The Birth Story

Well, let's see...I guess it really starts Friday night.

Ian and I were determined to meet this little girl and we were getting impatient. It was a beautiful evening and when Ian got home from work we had dinner outside and watched the Alpacas run in the field. After dinner E decided that he was going to start mowing the lawn and get at least half done so that he could finish the rest in the morning. I decided I was going to do some walking to get this baby thing going.

As he mowed I walked the length of the pastures with the alpacas, back and forth, back and forth, at a pretty good pace. As Ian was finishing up for the night he kept telling me we were going to go out on the 4 wheeler for a nice bumpy ride. He continued to mow, I continued to walk. Then I headed for the trampoline, climbed on up and did some stretching.

He finished the lawn, helped me off the trampoline, lol, and we headed for the 4 wheeler. I made him promise to go slow and thought we'd just do a short little ride around the property. Boy was I wrong! He did go slow and was very safe but we were out for over an hour! We went all through a bunch of trails, I was scared to death at some points and begging him to go home, lol.

We got back home and relaxed for a bit then headed off to bed.

Had a perfect nights sleep.

Woke up around 6am to go pee and had a little bit of a bloody discharge. (Thinking FINALLY! Something! A sign that I will indeed have this baby someday) Told Ian and climbed back into bed for about a half hour.

Ian didn't have to be to work until noon, so we got up at 7am and started the day hoping to get some stuff done before he had to get ready for work. First on the agenda was heading to the lumber store for more supplies for the deck.

At 7:22am, before we left, I had my first contraction. I didn't really think anything of it since it only lasted about 30 seconds and I hadn't had any Braxton Hicks, so I just figured it was that.

So we hop in the truck and head to town...

7:41am, I'm on the 3rd contraction, so I decided to tell Ian I might be having contractions. He immediately lights up and says with the biggest eyes I've ever seen "WHAT?!"

At this point we are heading to the lumber store and we have almost no gas in the truck..Ian starts freaking out. I tell him I'm fine, we can still go to the store and I'll see how I feel when I get home...I mean I still have to take a shower, we're not going anywhere until I shower, lol.

He says we better get gas first..."just in case" lol. The whole way he is timing me and taking notes on my contraction like symptoms.

We get the lumber (I had a big one while they were loading the truck)

Head back to the house...they're still coming, about every 10 minutes and lasting only 30-40 seconds.

Ian is still getting nervous. I tell him I'm going to take a shower and see if they're still coming and if they are I'll call the doctor after. I told him to relax, I was sure this was nothing. SO I went to shower and he finished mowing the lawn and unloading the lumber.

After my shower they were still coming, I wasn't in any pain I could just kind of feel them. Still ever 10 or so minutes and lasting 30 seconds.

I call the doctor and she says, why don't you go into the hospital and get checked, they'll page me when you get there.

Ok.

We get all our stuff ready and head out.

I continue to tell Ian that this is not the real thing and they will probably just send us home. "I wonder how long this will take. I'm starving. I didn't get to eat breakfast yet."

Ian finally convinces me to eat something before we go in so we made a quick stop at the Dunkin donuts drive thru. They totally screw up the order and I got some thing I didn't order...oh well, I ate a little and we continued on our way.

We get to the hospital at 10:45am.

They check me...1cm, posterior, cervix thin, but the nurse doesn't think it's going to be my day. She suggests we walk for about an hour or two and she'll check me again...so we walk.

Nurse comes back and hooks me back up to the monitors...contractions stop...

She tells us they're probably going to send me home, but she'll give me another hour if I want to walk some more before she checks me. We agree and head back to the halls again...

I'll have to add the times later, from Ian's phone since he texted after every check.

Back to the monitors and let's get checked...The look of surprise on the nurses face was priceless. She totally thought we'd be going home...but no. We were 2-3cm, Very thin, and no longer posterior. "You're staying!"

I couldn't believe it!

We convince the nurses to move us down to the big suite at the end of the hall, since the room we were in was TINY!

They came and got blood and were ready to start the IV (aka my worst fear). I convince the nurse to hold off until we get to the other room, she agrees and meets me down there. Then I convinced her to let me walk for a little bit...she says ok, but not to long we have to do the IV.

I come back and we fight through the IV, I'm screaming and bawling my eyes out, she has to do it twice and I cry like a crazy person. Finally it's in.

Awhile later she checks me again...3cm, fully effaced!

The Doctor decided to get me started on Pitocin to open me up...we agree that we should get the epidural (aka my other worst fear) at the same time so that I'm not in pain from the pitocin contractions. I hadn't really been in pain upto this point, still. I again convince the nurse to let me walk with my IV pole for a little bit, thus avoiding the much feared epidural. She agrees but only 10 minutes! Ok, ok.

Back for the epidural, the anesthesiologist is waiting at my room for me. Let's get started...they make everyone leave the room (At this point, we're only supposed to have 2 people in the room and we're now up to 5, lol. My parents and Ian's parents were there.)

Sitting on the bed getting ready for the epi, I almost backed out. I was that scared! Literally, a heartbeat away from just saying forget it I can't do this! I bite my lip and we get started...

It was EASY!!! Piece of cake! I love this man! I barely felt a thing! The IV was a MILLION times worse! I could do the epi again easily, no fear...WOW.

It's about 5:30pm

So the pitocin and epi are started and I'm very comfortable. They check me again...5cm. Up the pitocin, they're wasting no time here...

Ian's dad tells me that I need to have her by 6pm, lol. I tell him he's insane!

6:34pm...checked again, 9cm! OMG!!!

The contractions got much worse and the epi man had to come back and give me an extra boost. The room becomes chaos while they prepare everything for delivery, kick out all my extra spectators, and go over the cord blood banking instructions one last time.

Before I know it we are pushing, it's 7pm.

With a couple of pushes and alot of encouragement from Ian, my mom, 2 nurses and 2 doctors...Samantha Lee entered the world at 7:27pm!

Only 25 minutes of pushing!

She gave us a little scare when her head came down, her heart rate dropped and the doctor threatened surgery if I didn't push her out now! It was stressful and hard...but heck, it was only 25 minutes!!! So worth it! I never knew 25 minutes could feel like hours, lol. I can't imagine those who have to push for hours...it's hard work.

Unfortunately I had to have the episiotomy to get her little melon out fast enough, but I'm feeling better now...and again, it was SO worth it! Every stitch! lol.

Short and Sweet

No baby yet!!!

Went to the doctor yesterday...
I'm pretty sure now that the scale was definitely off last week. 2 weeks ago I was 143lbs. last week they said I dropped 2 pound so I was down to 141lbs. This week I weighed in at 144lbs. so it looks as though we're back on track. Also 2 weeks ago the belly was measuring at 34-35 weeks, then last week we were down to 33 weeks, and this week we're back up to 35. So, we're still behind but the baby is still growing and doing fine inside so no worries.

I'm starting to think that this baby is never really coming...
No 39 week belly shot yet, I'll try to get one this afternoon.

Doctor says we won't even consider induction until after I pass the 41 week mark!! Let's hope she comes out soon!

Swimming, upsate NY style...bring your own wet suit, lol.

Ian is determined to feed the boys by hand...they're not so determined. They are very timid...

Family shot, Memorial Day weekend 2007

This is Jose. He'll be a year old July 7th. He's a little dirty here from the dandelion fuzz and hay in the barn.

This is Mr. Dithers. He just turned a year old a week from Monday. He's the leader of the boys, but is quickly getting fed up with the little ones following him every where.

Cousins on Memorial day...We went fishing down at the marina...good family fun!

38 Weeks

Posted by Picasa
So every doctor visit is an adventure these days. Last two weeks the fundal height has been measuring under as far as weeks go. This is most likely due to the baby dropping since the fundal measurement goes from the pelvic bone to the top of the uterus.
Well, this week, we start the routine...first is weight. We weighed twice and I lost 2 pounds! What the heck! I've been eating non stop and always hungry. How could I have possibly lost 2 pounds? I ate a whole box of ice cream sandwiches this week! LOL
So we move on and the doc measures my belly. This week it's measuring at 33 weeks! Ugh, I'm 38 weeks! So, we listen to the heart beat..everything's good. The baby is moving fine...we decide to send me for an ultrasound to make sure I'm not losing fluid.
Wait and hour...
Go for the ultrasound, we measure the fluid and check for breathing movements...everything is good. Then we watched her for a while to see her moving her arms and legs and make at least one big movement. She passes with flying colors and they send me on my way.
So, here we are 2 pounds lighter (Now at a 24 pound total weight gain) and no baby yet. I was actually getting really excited because if the fluid was low then we were going to induce today, but no such luck :(
Sorry Mary, doesn't look like today is the day, but it was pretty close to being the day!
Well, it's another 80 degree day here so I'm heading back outside for the day. Wish me luck for a baby soon!

Hello world!

The Drop

Well, I could tell that she had dropped before but OMG has she dropped now! I can feel the pressure down below. It started really yesterday I could tell she was extremely low and she feels very heavy. I've been having quick bursts of energy, which I think is really just from the pure excitement and anticipation. Having a lot more back pain the last 2 days too.

I can't believe that she will be here in 2 weeks!! Hopefully, less than 2 weeks now. I'm ready for her any day! Although, we do need to go grocery shopping since there is no food in this house. I've made sure everything else is ready. So...now all we need is some food, and the baby! I can't wait! I'm really hoping she makes an appearance before the holiday, but only time will tell. I'm guessing that she is going to try and come on Tuesday since I'll be 2 hours away from home to go see Ryleigh at her dance class. I'm pretty disappointed that I might miss her very first recital, but it's the same weekend as my due date! Hopefully I can at least make it to her class....if not and the baby comes it would still be good because then I would probably make it for the recital!

37 weeks

The appointment went well today. I'm SO happy to have my doctor back!
Gained another pound this week (26 total).
The belly is still measuring small, we've always been a little behind, doc says it's because I'm a small person, just petite. The belly measurement isn't as acurate after 36 weeks anyway, since the baby has dropped it makes it more difficult.
She explained the whole placenta/ultrasound drama to me. Apparently, there are placental lakes. Small pools of venus blood in the placenta. Nothing serious, no clots or calcium deposits, the placenta isn't leaking, no placental previa or abruption. The second ultrasound rated the placenta as a 1. She says they rate them as a 1,2,3 or 4. 4 being old or used up, not good. I was a 1 so that's great. Everything is going well.
She still hasn't checked to see if I'm dialated or effaced, and I still haven't asked her to. I figure the baby's going to come when she comes anyway, so it really doesn't make a difference to me.

Here's the 37 week pic...

3rd time....

Third time's a charm right?
I've written this post three times now. I'm ready to throw my laptop out the window! It has decided to just turn off when I'm in the middle of typing....3 TIMES!!! I could just scream! I started this post last week to record what happened at the doctors appointment last week.

  • My doctor's still not back (Apparently she's in Cali for a conference)
  • I gained 2lbs. putting the total at 25lbs.
  • my belly measurement was behind by a week. (Nothing to worry about yet, but we'll look into it this week if there's no change again)
  • I saw the same doc that ordered the ultrasound last week.
  • He didn't have the results
  • I made him get them faxed over.
  • Everything looks fine, normal.

So the appointment went ok, but I CAN NOT wait to have my doctor back this week. If you recall, she is the only reason I'm still at this office. I hate it there, but we like my doc. So 2 weeks with out her and still going to this office is like torture!

The baby has definitely dropped, I can tell. I haven't been checked or anything, so I don't know if I'm dilated or effaced or anything. I'm kind of scared of getting checked so I haven't brought it up. Maybe she will this Thursday. We'll see.

This baby girl apparently didn't feel it necessary for me to sleep at all last night. I was up until 11pm before trying to go to sleep. I got in bed and she would not stop moving! And I'm not talking little movements either. These were full blown flips and kicks and cartwheels. It feels like she's crossing and uncrossing her legs all night long. Then just for fun she'll kick and push and stretch on my ribs. It's a great time...really.

I'm going to hurry up and publish this before the laptop turns off again....

Ultrasound pics from today. The scanner put huge glares on them, but I thought I'd share anyway.
Everything went well. She wieghs 5 lbs. 13 oz. so far with 3-4 weeks to go!
Look at those lips!!
She has her fist over her mouth and her eyes are closed in this one.
Profile shot...look at those lips!
She is sucking her thumb in this one but the glare is so bad you can hardly see it in the scan. You can see her arm there in the middle and her eye wide open on the right like she's looking at you.

The actual pictures are better, but for some reason the scanner didn't want to cooperate today.
